Project description
The Learning Forest in Vrå is a unique gathering place for learning, culture, sports and socializing for all age groups. Besides school, the building contains a daycare, music school, library and a new flexible sports hall, which is combined with boats the school and the existing sports centre. The school is built up of clusters around the common "heart space", which works as the infrastructural hub.
Play, learning and development are also the focus of the daycare, which is approximately 1500 m2 and as 24 nursery children and 140 Kindergarten children get their everyday life.
The building mass is woven into the surrounding forest, so that outside and inside merge, and reflects nature as a play and learning space. The effect of the surrounding trees on the thermal and visual indoor climate, including daylight, has been investigated through simulations and on that basis they are included as an integral part of the solar shielding.
The forest is also reflected in the constructive concept and in a choice of materials with extensive use of wood for facades and roofs.
Throughout the year, the building is ventilated by mechanical ventilation with natural ventilation as a supplement when necessary. The ventilation is regulated according to the usage pattern – to the benefit of users and energy consumption.
The building has received DGNB certification for Gold and Diamond.
In 2022, Læringsskoven (Forrest of learning) was named School of the Year.
